Youth Group

I'm involved in my church's youth group. I have been since middle school and I love it. Every Friday we gather together in a room in our parish center and have a prayer meeting. Somone talks about a topic and then we all discuss that topic or how our week's been going. Then we pass a cross around and talk directly to Jesus, and finally we all hold hands and say a closing prayer. It's really a nice way to relax and breath again after a really stressfull week. My group also holds retreats for middle and high school students. They're great ways to get to know yourself and God better through talks, discussion and prayer. I'm a team leader on those retreats and I love to see the impact they have on people. Anyone else in a youth group or something like that?

yes i am in a youth group. i go to calvary chapel in plano texas and what my youth group does is, we go downstairs for grownups worship and then we go upstairs and wait till everyones in. then, we would normally have a worship leader, but austin and his sister asia moved to california, jeanette and her sister moved to another church in our metro i think, and my youth pastors older sons band kinda broke up cuz hes in the army now. so sometimes pastor kurt asks me to sing and/or play guitar, or he asks my friend taylor to play an oboe solo which is cool. then we go around the room and if theres a lot of new ppl we play the name game and then do prayer requests/praise reports. when someone announces a prayer request/praise report, someone else will offer to pray for them and so on and so forth. sometimes we do this before service, sometimes after. anyway then pastor kurt teaches straight from the bible, like right now we are in the book of first corinthians. i love the way he preaches, hes so loving and animated when he talks... and well, he teaches about situations like what we would go through so we can understand better and applies them to the bible and how we should handle it.... cuz hes gone through it all before so he knows. and my church is small, very very small, so sometimes its him and i one on one; sometimes it can be up to 25 kids. but thats it. i like it that way cuz you know everybody and its more comfortable that way. the ppl at my church are so infectious spirited,... theyre amazing. for example you may be a newcomer... they might not know you at all, but theyre not going to judge you, and if youve got a prayer request or youre hurting theyll give you a hug and pray with you and let them cry on their shoulder... they are very compassionate ppl... i havent seen many like them. i know this bc i have experienced it first hand.... some girl i never really knew asked me what was up and i told her i was going through a lot of stuff... and i started crying... and she just gave me the biggest hug and prayed with me. i love my church it is my home away from home and i feel like god has put me there.... i hope forever.

I go to Callvery Chapple in Silverdale Washington along with my family. I use to go to our youth group, yet I signed myself up to attend the State School for the Blind in Vancouver WA. As you might know,it is about three hours away from my home in Bremerton. So, our school nurse's sister is now taking me to their youth group in Beeverton Orgon. It is a For Square Church. I love it. It is bigger than my home church. I love it thogh. Everyone is so glad that I can make it there every week. Praise God for that.

Yeah there's this one youth group here that I went to once and I dind't really like it cuz everyoen was all disrespectful and they only cared about the activities for fun, and not about what was being said during the sermons and so on. I mean not sermons but like, what the lesson of the day was. And also there were like old guys who were kind of being rude to my friend and I and htat kind of bugged me. And like cell phones went off and all during the sermon and what not. But that was just one time and it was sort of a thing for kids to go to after school and have fun and stuff. So I wouldn't call it a professional thing. Melmel thanks for the site, will check it out maybe! Caitcait

Yeah because as we all know we must be professional when consulting jesus.

I did want out of that youth group! like I said a friend bullied me into going and I had no respect for it, it was rubbish.

You no James, you do not have to be professenal to speak with Jesus, but, just come as you are. You do not have to say anything fancy, or do anything stupid, but love Him with all of your hart, soul, and mind.
Cheers,
Lordlover

You know what I hate is when churches have to be sooo fancy, and you have to come all starched and whatnot, when Jesus told you to come just as you are. Chelsea, what you said reminded me of this topic. Anyway, at my church you don't hafta come all prettied up and crap if ya don't want, but don't dress like half naked, y'know what I mean? Jesus loves us all whether we're dressed up or not, and He loves it when we worship Him, dressed up or not, singing badly or not, He loves it!

I hate dressing up period hehehe, for church or for anyone. Why can't I just be myself and be comfortbale heheheh?

Post 18 by Happy Little Faith (One day closer to eternity! Wahoooooooo!) on Friday, 11-Mar-2005 13:23:45

I sure do not dress up for church. The only time I dress up is when I am going to to perform with my school band, or a wedding.

Well, this Youth Group gathering has sure died down, however we can stoke the fire once again. My question for everyone is, what is new and exciting in your youth group? I unfortunatly am not able to go to youth group too offten, so I want to hear what God is doing in your life.

Can't wait to hear from you all.

God bless you all.

I wish my church had a youth group, well... I'm not a youth any more, but something for college people to go to. I think that's one of the things that bugs me about Catholicism, at least in my perish. The majority of our perishoners are like in their sixties or older, and... I dunno. The newman center would be a cool place to go, but transportation from my house to the University isn't really available on sunday evenings. I'd go to a youth group if there was one near me. The spanish youth group at my church is fairly active. Unfortunatley, I don't speak Spanish.

Hmmm... do you have any Calvary Chapels near you in Utah? Maybe you could find out and see if there's one near. From what I've experienced, their youth group stuff is totally awesome..

Post 22 by Telemachus (Death: the destroyer of worlds.) on Monday, 02-May-2005 18:30:04

As far as I know, we don't have any Calvary chappels here. That's really unfortunate. From what I've read in your posts in this discussion regarding them, they sound like I'd really fit in there.

You would. You'd love it. Well, I'll be praying for you that you end up finding a good church. God bless.

Yes, a youth group is indeed nice.
We have a youth group. Our group is called the edge. Why? I have no clue, but does it matter? No, not really. Our pastor calls himself bear. Lmao! Anyways, sometimes like all Christians he can get a bit prejudice, but... hey. I don't like it that much, but... Well, he can get funny though. We have sunday school on sunday, and we join the adults in big church aka temple. Of course if we did go to early service there's no point. In sunday school, Bear just preaches. Well, or another person will. Usually funny. Tuesdays we have small groups. We get different leaders. We sit around talking about problems our week, and then more Bible studying. We talk about the Bible, and it's time to go.
